Rhetoric & Ideology
In this project the assignment was to explore the ways we can use rhetoric to share our ideas and to explore our own ideology. We used this project to really research our views and understand why we believe what we believe. I took this prompt and decided to express my passion for learning.
I used rhetoric by creating a poem that incited an emotional response in my audience. With feedback from my peers, I learned how to create a powerful spoken word poem. My project helped advocate for students, like myself, that feel schools are not supporting my learning.
My rhetoric was formed from a personal experience that gave my argument Ethos. I became the expert on my topic and used my own situation as a source of evidence. This connected me to my learning and made my project important to me.
I was challenged to focus on the big picture of education rather than just the experience I am having at Animas. About half way through the project I realized that the problem with education is not solved by having a few unique charter schools, the problem is the whole education system. After revision I turned my rhetoric into something that addressed the bigger picture.
I have learned what a huge role rhetoric plays in our daily lives, noticed or un-noticed. My ideology is a more liberal ideology; however the way I look at the world is unique and formed through my personal experiences. This project showed the diversity of ideology in the whole class and I got to know how each person feels about the issues of today.
